You are back in the cellar. You cannot resist the temptation to open the writing bureau drawer again. There are lots of papers strewn about inside but you feel something smooth to the touch. It is an old photograph. Holding it up to the moonlight you see the shell of what was probably once a grand building.
Instinctively you turn the photograph over. There is an inscription written in almost child-like writing. It refers to "the big fire at the masters house". Reaching inside the drawer again you find a note which bears the same handwriting as that which appears on the back of the photograph. The note reads "Miss Issy she get very ill when baby come master say no doctor in any city or town go to her she die baby die". The note is signed "Daisy".
What have you stumbled upon? Only time will tell. You are beginning to feel that there is not much of that left. If you want to take the lily-livered option you can leave The Dark House now or if you have suicidal tendencies you can always grab that diary again and read it.
