Traveller's Tales
I visited Mexico in September 1994. I spent some time in the resort of Cancun and the rest of the time visiting some Mayan ruins situated on the Yucatan peninsular. Cancun is the Las Vegas of Mexico and is spread out over many miles - I caught the local bus to visit different parts of it every night. It wasn't long before I encountered some of the westernized chains like 'TGI Fridays' and 'Hard Rock Cafe'. The music played in the Hard Rock Cafe was the same music which was being played in the UK at that particular time.
After a couple of tequilas, you'll be reaching for the sombrero. Just make sure that none of your friends have got a camera...
Traditional Mexican music comes in the form of the mariachi band - catch one if you can - they are great to listen to.
Adventurous types may like to have a go climbing one of the pyramids at Chichen Itza or Uxmal.
Also adventurous eaters might like to try chicken in chocolate sauce - the chocolate is used to make the sauce thick and creamy. Personally, I don't recommend it, but then again, I was off food generally for half of the time I was in Mexico (watch out for stomach bugs!)
